Branding A Young Business—From Start-Up to Stand-Out
Chris Nye, Canary Design
The challenge:
Due to her husband transitioning out of his career of 20 years into owning his own business, Chris Nye needed to find a way to supplement the
family income (and quickly!) Although she was a talented illustrator and graphic artist trained before the days of computer-aided graphic design,
she was thinking about getting a job at Starbucks. She felt overwhelmed by the prospect of relearning her profession for the digital age.
The solution:
What started as a request for validation of her plans to get a “no-stress part-time job,” turned into a rich collaboration. Robin walked Chris through
start-up including—choosing a name and tagline, making savvy computer purchases, troubleshooting computer problems, handling initial clients,
writing up contracts and invoices, and more. Robin had Chris redesign her own living room, and then featured Chris’s business, Canary Design, at
her own two-year open house.
The results:
Canary Design has gone from start-up to a viable business that is bringing in steady work for Chris. Chris has branched into interior design and illustration
with great success, and is currently working on branding her business and creating a website. What’s more, she has great faith for the future of her business.
“Robin has become my sounding board for my thoughts, ideas, desires, direction and passions. She helped me come up with a name for my company, wrote
my tagline, and has been helping me define my unique marketing proposition. She brought me into her women’s networking group and many marketing
conferences throughout the year, helping me learn how to talk about my business.”
